画蛇添足
Long long ago, three people had a jar of wine among them and all of them wanted to drink it by himself. So they set a rule that everyone would draw a snake on the ground and the man who finished first would have the wine. One man finished his snake very soon and he was about to drink the wine when he saw the others were still busy drawing, so he decide to draw the feet to the snake. However, before he could finish the feet, another man finished and grabbed the jar from him, saying, “Who has ever seen a snake with feet?” The story tells us going too far is as bad as not going far enough.
画蛇添足，讲的是：楚国有个祭祀的人，赏给门客一壶酒。门客们互相商量说:“大家一起喝这壶酒不够，一个人喝它才差不多。请大家在地上画蛇，先画好的人喝这壶酒。”
一个人把蛇画好了，拿起酒壶准备饮酒，却左手拿着酒壶，右手画蛇，说:“我能够为它画脚。”他还没有(把脚)画完，另一个人的蛇画好了，抢过他的酒壶，说:“蛇本来就没有脚，你怎能为它画脚呢?”话刚说完，就把那壶酒喝完了。
那个给蛇画脚的人最终失去了那壶酒。
父子与驴
A long, long time ago, one day, there is a father and his son. The father and the son take the donkey to the town to sell it. As they are crossing a bridge, they see some women washing their cloths. One woman says to the father: “If you are smart, why don’t you let your son ride on the donkey?” So he lets his son ride on the donkey, and he walks in front of the donkey.
As they are walking along, a granny with a walking stick comes toward them. The granny says to the son: “ How dare you ride on the donkey and let your father walk?” The son feels ashamed. So he lets his father ride on the donkey.
Then another man comes along and says with a laugh: “What a stupid father and son!” Why don’t you both ride on the donkey?” So the father and the son listen to the man and they both ride on the donkey.
Later, they see a farmer working in the field. The farmer says: “The donkey is too tired.” On hearing this, the father and the son quickly dismount from the donkey. They tie the four legs of the donkey together with a rope, and carry it with a pole.
As they are crossing another bridge, the donkey breaks loose and falls into a river below. The donkey drowns. Both the father and the son are very sad, but they can do nothing to save the donkey.
父子与驴，讲的是：父子俩牵着驴进城，半路上有人笑他们：真笨，有驴子不骑！
父亲便叫儿子骑上驴，走了不久，又有人说：真是不孝的儿子，竟然让自己的父亲走着！
父亲赶快叫儿子下来，自己骑到驴背上，又有人说：真是狠心的父亲，不怕把孩子累死！
父亲连忙叫儿子也骑上驴背。谁知又有人说：两个人骑在驴背上，不怕把那瘦驴压死？
父子俩赶快溜下驴背，把驴子四只脚绑起来，用棍子扛着。经过一座桥时，驴子因为不舒服，挣扎了下来，结果掉到河里淹死了！
