嗨,亲爱的们,今天重庆新航道的小编要给大家分享的是托福写作的相关话题,下面我们就一起来看看吧。
今天的题目是:
Some people think that lessons for young children (age 4-8) which include video games can serve as effective and interesting ways of learning, while others think that these lessons are quite distracting and can be seen as a waste of time. What is your opinion and why?
It is reported in the newspaper that more and more schools choose to use video games to stimulate children’s interest in studying, since children are naturally attracted by games and video games can make learning a fun process. However, this action also arouses people’s attention about whether video games bring more benefits than harm. Some people support the idea of using video games, while I tend to believe that using video games in class for children of age 4-8 is a completely waste of time.
First of all, video games can be quite distracting. In the traditional class, students usually focus their attention on teachers since they don’t really have anything else to pay attention to. However, involving video games in class may make children have more things to think about and it is getting harder for them to be fully concentrated on their study. For example, the teacher may use a kind of video game to teach children the alphabet. For the first class, the children may learn it very well, when they are just introduced to this game. However, since then, because the game is quite fun, the children may keep thinking about how to get better scores in the game instead of listening attentively to the teacher to learn the letters, which would definitely not benefit their study.
Moreover, video games can harm children’s eyes. It is well-known that the screens of electronic devices, such as video game, are harmful to people’s eyes since people’s eyes designed to absorb ultraviolet rays coming from sun are not good at absorbing blue light emitted by the screens of electronic devices. Therefore, the blue light hits the retina and produces toxic substances which slowly begin to damage the retina. Hence, long term exposure to blue light may affect people’s vision. It is especially harmful to children since most of children’s organs are still in the process of developing and are too tender to be exposed in the harmful blue light all the time. So adding video game classes to children’s curriculum will greatly harm their eyes.
Furthermore, those video games may devastate children’s creativity.Traditionally, children are encouraged to do creative things in class. For example, they are urged by teachers to draw pictures or build something up by using blocks. However, video games may change all of these, since all the video games are preprogrammed and children are supposed to guess the so-called correct answers or follow the designed paths in order to get a high score. For example, in the video games, children may be allowed to construct different kinds of buildings, but since the game has been coded in the way that only certain buildings or certain elements could gain high score, children eventually are directed to build the building in a certain way, instead of designing the structure whatever way they like as it is in the real world. Thus gradually, they will be less creative.
Since video games may harm children’s creativity and eyes and can be distracting, it is surely not a good idea to include video games in class.
