你听！夜莺在绿柳枝头自由地歌唱。
Listen! Nightingales are singing freely on the green willow branches.
你看！万里长空在皎洁的月光下格外清朗。
Look! The sky is extremely clear in the bright moonlight.
此时，花开始谢了，但是麦子茁壮地长起来了。
During Minor Fullness, the flowers begin to wither, but the wheat is thriving.
这正是北宋欧阳修笔下的《小满》所描述的情景：“夜莺啼绿柳，皓月醒长空。垄头麦，迎风笑落红。”
This is exactly what Ouyang Xiu, a poet in the Northern Song Dynasty, described in his poem Minor Fullness.
在我国南方，有“小满小满，江满河满”的说法，意味着南方进入了大幅降水的雨季。
In the south of China, there is a saying that “when Minor Fullness comes, the rivers are full”, which means that the south has entered the rainy season with heavy rainfall.
而在北方，人们则说 “小满小满，麦粒渐满”，小满时麦子越来越饱满，眼看就快要丰收了。
In the north, however, people say “when Minor Fullness comes, wheat grain buds gradually grow”. During Minor Fullness, the wheat grows quickly, and the harvest is coming.
在24节气中，大小相对的节气有三对：小暑对大暑，小寒对大寒，小雪对大雪。
Among the 24 solar terms, there are three pairs of minor & major solar terms: Minor Heat & Major Heat, Minor Snow & Major Snow, Minor Cold & Major Cold.
但是为什么只有小满，却没有大满呢？
But why can’t we find “Major Fullness” when there is “Minor Fullness” in the 24 solar terms?
小满的命名体现了中国先哲的智慧：水满则溢，月盈则亏，这是自然之道。
The name of Minor Fullness embodies the wisdom of ancient Chinese sages: water spills out when it is full; the moon begins to wane the moment it becomes full. This is the rule of nature.
不满虽留遗憾，过满则招损失。
Not reaching fullness, we’ll feel regretful, but when we gain fullness, we are bound to lose something.
因此，我们不疾不徐，用心生活，收获“小满”，但不要“大满”，过满。
Therefore, we enjoy our lives in an appropriate speed, expecting minor fullness or satisfaction instead of major fullness or overfullness.
小满虽为节气，亦是人生，甚是巧妙。
Although Minor Fullness is a solar term, it is a lesson of life. How ingenious!
