Imagine you are working on a group project with two coworkers, and the deadline (the time that the project should be submitted) is approaching. The project looks good but could be improved if you all work on it more; however, this would mean that you miss the deadline. One of your coworkers suggests submitting the project in its current condition to meet the deadline, while your other coworker thinks it is better to wait and submit the project after the deadline so that it is perfect. Which one do you prefer?
The fast advance of technology has made the current tasks increasingly more difficult for people to finish. Thus more and more people choose to work with other coworkers to complete their jobs or tasks. However, when the deadline is approaching, different people may have various ideas about whether they should submit it on time, since some of them may believe more time could give them more chances to improve their projects. However, from my perspective, it is surely important to submit the project before deadline even if that means the project is not perfect enough.
To begin with, submitting on time can make sure that other people’s schedule will not be interrupted. Setting up deadline means one group of people may need to finish the project before a certain date so that other groups could start to finish theirs immediately after certain date. Usually, in order to ensure a smooth transfer of projects, the second group needs to make preparations days or even weeks before the deadline. Thus, not being able to submit the project on time may force the second group to wait for a few days even though they are fully prepared, which means the second group may not be able to complete their jobs according to their schedule. For example, one group of people may be in charge of making PowerPoint for a presentation of their new product. They may find out that they could improve the color of all the slides of the PowerPoint and then choose to submit the project two to three days later than the deadline. In this case, the other group, which is in charge of writing the script for the presentation, cannot start until two to three days later. However, the second group may originally plan that they should be able to finish the script in a week and may have searched for a lot of materials in advance for the script. Now, submitting later than deadline may force the second group to finish their job two to three days later than originally scheduled, which may potentially affect their other jobs as well. Therefore, it is important to submit the project on time.
Moreover, not being able to submit the project on time may also make the company lose the trust from their clients. There are many companies doing the same kind of business. Thus it is really hard to find clients and it is important to keep as many clients as possible to ensure the survival of the company. However, the trust of the clients can be lost very easily just because the company cannot present the project to the client on time. For example, one company may be responsible for designing and creating a website for a new business and they have agreed to complete the project on a certain date. Everything may go smoothly until one of the members of the group in charge of the project decide that the plan of the homepage should be changed to make it more user-friendly. If the whole group thus decide to follow his idea and start to make changes, the project will take another week, which means the client won’t have its new website before deadline. In this case, it may seem that the client may be happy since it is easier to be used and the website will be more attractive to users. However, the reality will be that the client may leave completely, since not being able to submit the project on time breaks the agreement and the client may find it really hard to trust this company. Consequently, this may lead to great loss to the company. Therefore, it is important to submit the project on time, even though it may not be perfect enough.
To sum up, it is surely important to submit the project on time even though it means the project may not be perfect enough.
