1. Describe an area of science (biology, robotics, etc.) that you are interested in and would like to learn more about
You should say:
Which area it is
When and where you came to know this area
How you get information about this area
And explain why you are interested in this area
I'm particularly interested in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) 人工智能, which combines computer science and robotics. I first encountered it in a news article a few years ago. The idea of machines mimicking human intelligence and performing tasks autonomously(机器模仿人类智能并自主执行任务)intrigued(引起兴趣) me.
To learn more about AI, I've been following reputable(有声望的) websites, online courses, and attending AI-related workshops when possible. These resources have helped me understand the fundamentals of machine learning, neural networks(神经网络), and natural language processing.
What captivates(吸引) me about AI is its transformative potential across various(many, multiple, numerous) industries. From healthcare and finance to self-driving cars and virtual assistants, AI is revolutionizing how we interact with technology and solve complex problems. I'm excited about its ethical implications, its ability to enhance efficiency and improve our lives, and the endless possibilities it holds for the future. It's a dynamic field with numerous challenges and breakthroughs, and that's why I'm eager to continue exploring and learning about it.
2. Describe a piece of good advice that you gave to someone[new]
You should say:
Who you gave the advice to
What the advice was
Why you gave the advice
And explain how he/she followed your advice
Well, I think I am going to talk about a time when I cheered up (鼓励)one of my best friends, Hesper after she got out of a long term relationship(离开一段长期的关系) with her fiancé.
So, if I am not mistaken(我没有记错的话),it was probably 3 months ago, Hesper called me in the middle of the night(大半夜), she was crying out loud(大声哭), seemed quite devastated(悲痛万分). You know, I’m generally not that kind of person who loves giving my advice to people in life. But that was my very first time(第一次) to see her like that, she’s usually quite calm. So first, I told her that she had lost herself(迷失自己) in that toxic relationship(不良关系) long time ago. I thought that the break-up was actually for the best for both of them. Then, I strongly urged(强力推荐) her to go out and have a trip, to pull herself together again(振作起来) . it might seem crazy, but I recommended her to sign up for(去做) trip next day to go to Xi’an with me, which is a place she had always wanted to go, because I’m a strong believer that travelling can boost a person’s mood and mentality.
So she took my suggestion as she always trusts me and tends to listen to me, and we went on the trip. We had a really good time there, we had some amazing food, the view was stunning(令人惊叹的), and at the last day she told me that life is too short to waste on bad things(人生太短,不应该浪费时间在糟糕的事), so I guess she was definitely back on the right track(重回正轨)
3. Describe a photo that makes you feel happy[new]
You should say:
When and where you took the photo
What the photo is like
How often you watch the photo
And explain why it makes you feel happy
Well, the photo I’d like to talk about was taken on a beautiful summer day at my favorite beach in Hainan, when I was on my first trip there. In this picture, you can see the stunning view of the sunset and the serene beach, which is always so reminiscent (令人想起) of the sweet time I spent in this coastal (沿海的) city. The vividness (生动) and the rich color make it even look like a well-made painting.
I visited Hainan with my bestie since we have been eager to visit this island for years.
The day after I arrived, I got up particularly (尤其的) early just to see that wonderful moment when the sun was setting over the horizon. I was amazed by how it cast (投射) a golden glow(光晕) across the seashore.
As I looked down, I noticed how the ocean stretched (延伸) as far as the eye could see and a palm tree stood tall against the colorful sky, swaying (摇摆) in the gentle breeze. Meanwhile, the sand was adorned (装饰) with a trail of footprints. On seeing this, I pressed the shutter (快门) immediately and got this photo, which was so full of life. I couldn’t help but think that I’m so lucky to be able to witness (见证) such a view and even capture it with my camera.
After I got back, I find myself revisiting (重复看) this photo from time to time, especially when I need a mental escape (逃离). The vivid color of the sunset takes me back to that perfect day at the beach, evoking(引发) a sense of calm. It makes me happy whenever I see it because it reminds (令…想起) me of the days filled with joy and relaxation, where the worries of everyday life were left far behind. Even though it’s been years since that trip, I’m still amazed by the landscape. Overall, it's a reminder that life is filled with sweet moments and it makes me feel happy.
4. Describe a rule that is important in your school or at work [new]
You should say:
What the rule is about
What happens when people break the rule
Why you think it is an important rule
And explain how you feel about the rule
At my school, there's one rule that really stands out, and that's the dress code (着装要求). It's something all students, including me, have to follow from Day One.
The rule mandates (强制执行) that all students must wear a designated uniform (制服) during school hours. This uniform typically consists of (由...组成) a specific combination of clothing items, including a shirt (衬衫), trousers (长裤) or a skirt, and in some cases, a tie (领带) or blazer (夹克). Deviating from (违反) this dress code is not tolerated, and students who fail to comply (遵从) may face disciplinary actions (纪律处分) such as warnings and detention.
The importance of this rule lies in its ability to create a sense of equality and unity among students. It levels the playing field, ensuring that no one is judged or singled out based on their clothing choices. It promotes a focused and disciplined atmosphere, reducing distractions related to fashion or social status.
From a personal perspective, I believe this rule has taught me the values of conformity and unity. It has helped me understand the importance of adhering to (坚持) established norms and respecting the traditions of our school. It has also eliminated (排除,清除,消除) the pressure of having to decide what to wear daily, allowing me to concentrate on (集中注意力于…) my studies and interactions with peers.
So, the dress code rule is a pivotal (关键的,核心的) aspect of my school's culture, fostering a sense of community and maintaining an environment conducive to (有助于的,有益的) learning.
5. Describe a drawing/painting that you like
You should say:
When you first saw this painting
What the painting is about
Who drew/painted it
And explain why you like this drawing/painting
Sample
I would like to talk about a painting that has always captivated(迷住,使着迷) me - "Starry Night" by Vincent van Gogh. This painting depicts(描述,描绘) a serene(平静的) night sky with swirling(旋动的), vibrant(鲜亮的)stars, and a small village nestled(半隐半现) below. What I find most striking(非常漂亮的;引人注目的) about this painting is the use of colour and brushstrokes(一画;绘画技巧). Van Gogh used bold (醒目的), contrasting(形成鲜明对比的)colours to create a sense of movement and energy, and the swirling brushstrokes add a sense of dynamism(活力;动态)to the scene.
The painting was created in 1889, during a time when Van Gogh was struggling with mental illness. I think this adds a layer of poignancy(辛酸) to the painting, as it reflects both the beauty and the turmoil(混乱) of the world around us. Whenever I look at this painting, I am reminded of the power of art to capture emotions and experiences that are difficult to put into words.
Overall, I believe that "Starry Night" is a masterpiece that continues to inspire and move people around the world. I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to see it in person and to experience its beauty first-hand(直接地).
6. Describe a good advertisement that you think is useful[new]
You should say:
Where you can see it
What it shows
Why you think it is useful
And explain how you feel about it
When it comes to(当提到) an useful advertisement, a public service ad about chopsticks flits through my mind(浮现在我脑海) which seems like a 5-minute-long short movies that I watched on Chinese Central Television when I was little. Recently I surprisingly found it on a video website when I was scrolling my phone(刷手机) and still touched by it.
Several scenes of Chinese people using chopsticks were used to show how a pair of chopsticks playing different roles in their different life stages. Start with the enlightenment stage(启蒙阶段), young kids get the original inspiration of traditional flavors, learn how to use chopsticks properly with courtesy(以合适礼仪使用筷子) from the seniors. As they grow up, separation from family would cause a sense of loneliness(孤独感), chopsticks which indicate the taste of home(代表家的味道) become the symbol of caring and interdependence relationships(互相关爱互相依靠的关系) among families, friends and neighbors. In their final stage, it is a period of time when the elderly tend to spend more time on caring of their juniors and burning incense for their lost loved ones(为逝去之人烧香). A pair of chopsticks carry the parts of(承载了一部分) cultural inheriting meaning and the longing of the past memories.
It brings the hearts of Chinese together for several thousand years, always indicates the rich flavors and blissful Chinese tastes(幸福中国味). I reckon(认为) every Chinese can easily identify with(认同) the ad of the everyday tableware(日常餐具) for it reminds us to be grateful to our culture as well as all the relationships we have in the world especially when watching it during any traditional festivals. It's useful because of the kindest concern and love to the public.
